Too many times, beginners get caught up with purchasing the latest ‘shiny new object’ when all they really need is to learn the basics first. They try to make money with the latest Facebook App or the latest WP plugin before they even get a simple website up and traffic.Internet marketing is not a race. Although you might feel like you need or should be making money fast. Believe it or not (and ask anyone) it takes time and a lot of hard work.


Start with learning the basics. Learn to walk before you run. You’ll be able to go far with just some simple website building and marketing skills. Here is a simple lesson about the basics of creating an internet business and online marketing. Learning these skills, you can build yourself a successful internet business.


Big Step 1. Find or create a product you want to sell online.This can be a product you’ve created or someone elses you can promote as an affiliate. Ultimately, you should be aiming to create a product of your own. I love and recommend the digital info-product business. It’s how I make 95% of my money online and it’s awesome because it’s 99% fully automatic. No shipping, no products to constantly create. List building/marketing is a proven strategy for making sales on demand. It’s easy to build a list at your blog or on your sales letter. Use a pop-up, embed your opt-in form in the web  page itself, or use a squeeze page. When you build a list, you can follow up with your subscriber and recommend products to them -yours and others’ as an affiliate.Here The Step by Step to Buid Your Website or Intall Your WordPress. The following is a step by step guide, that will show you how to install WordPress onto a web host like HostGator. Basically, what you’re going to see is the process when someone doing WordPress installation.Step 1 – Order Web Hosting. HostGator is my official web host and hosts all my blogs. Step 2 – Wait for the HostGator Email. Once you order your plan, HostGator will send you an email with your new account information. The email looks something like this.
What you need to do is click on the link to your control panel. This will bring up the cPanel login screen. Enter the username and password HostGator gave you and it will log you into your control panel.hostgatorStep 3 – The Control PanelhostgatorThe HostGator control panel is where you redeem your $100 Google AdWord credit. The page has a lot of icons but don’t let that intimidate you. There’s only one icon we’re interested in. Scroll down towards the bottom until you get to the software/Services panel.
From the software/Services panel, click the “Fantastico De Luxe” icon.Step 4 – Using Fantastico De Luxe. You will see a long list of software that Fantastico can automatically install. Looks under the Blogs category and click the link for WordPress.hostgatorNow click the “New Installation” link.hostgatorIf you want to install your blog in the root directory ( leave the “Install on directory” blank. If you want to install your blog on a subfolder (, then enter a name for the “Install on directory” field. Most bloggers install their blogs on the root directory.hostgatorChoose an admin username and password for your new blog and enter them into the corresponding fields. You should write the username and password down so you won’t forget it. This information is what you’ll use to log into your new blog. Fill in the remaining information and then click “Install WordPress.” The next screen will appear after a few seconds.hostgatorClick the “Finish installation” button. Now, enter your blog’s URL and have a look at your new WordPress blog!hotsgatorStep 5 – Updating WordPress. Because WordPress is constantly improving, the version that Fantastico installs may not be the latest. Fantastico is usually a few weeks behind on getting the latest version. Fortunately, updating WordPress is very easy. Log into your WordPress control panel by entering will see a yellow bar running across the top telling you that a new WordPress version is available. Click the “Please update now” link. This will take you to the update page. Click the “Update Automatically” button.hostgatorWhen you click the auto update button, WordPress will download the latest version of the software from and automatically update your blog. This only works on web hosts that support the auto update feature. If your host doesn’t support auto update, then you’ll have to open up the FTP program and update WordPress manually. But that’s a whole other blog post! My advice: stick with HostGator.Step 6 – Set The Permalink. On the right side menu, go to “Settings” and choose “Permalinks.” From here you’ll be able to control how WordPress displays its URL. The default setting is not very search engine friendly so you’ll want to change it.hostgatorFor the free WordPress installation service, I use a custom /%postname%/ structure that shows the blog URL plus title of the blog post. Instead of, the URL will be This is much more search engine friendly.Step 7 – Allow Search Engines to See You. Again on the right side menu, go to “Settings” and choose “Privacy.”hostgatorBy default, WordPress blocks off your blog from the search engines. Obviously, this is not ideal since we want Google to be able to find us. Change the value to make your blog visible to everyone including the search engines then click the save button.Step 8 – Upgrade The Plugins. Click the Plugins link on the left side of the menu.hostgatorhostgatorWordPress will let you know if there are any updates available for the installed plugins. You can update to the latest version by clicking the “upgrade automatically” link. Again, this only works with web host that support this feature.Step 9 – Adding New Plugins. You can add pretty much any WordPress plugins directly from your WP control panel. Under the Plugins screen, click the “Add New” button.hostgatorSearch for the Plugin you wish to install. In this case, we’re looking for the All In One SEO Pack.hostgatorWordPress will display a list of Plugins matching the search term. Find the Plugin you’re looking for and click the “Install Now” link. The plugin will automatically install. Click “Activate Plugin” to turn it on.hostgatorRepeat the above steps for any other plugins you want to install. I guess I shouldn’t have to tell that this only works with web hosts that support the auto install feature.Step 10 – Write Your First Blog PosthostgatorCongrats! You have successfully installed and set up your own WordPress blog. Now go write your first blog post!
Big Step 3 – Create a Free eBook   The best way to make people give you their email address is to offer them something they find valuable for free. This is where the eBook comes in. You can write it yourself or hire Michael Kwan to write it. If you’re really cheap, you can use a PLR eBook. They’re just like PLR articles but in eBook size. Personally, I recommend you write it yourself or hire out the writing. The quality of PLR leaves a lot to be desired.The free eBook doesn’t have to be very big, 20 to 60 pages should do, but it does need to cover the same niche as the Clickbank products you plan to promote. This is why I said you should have a knowledge of the niche you plan to deal in.
Big Step 4 – Create a Squeeze Page To Promote The eBook A squeeze page is a special kind of landing page that is created solely to act as an opt in for information – primarily email addresses – from potential subscribers. When people visit my blog, I want them to subscribe to my email list. However, because there is so much to see and read, the number of sign ups isn’t as high as it could be. By creating a separate squeeze page, the email sign up rate can skyrocket. While I can capture maybe 5% of people visiting my blog, I have seen squeeze pages with conversion rate has high as 60%!The above screen shot is the squeeze page Jonathan Volk used to capture emails. By offering his Affiliate Marketing 101 guide for free, Jonathan was able to get 50% of the people visiting that page to opt into his email list. The easiest way to create a squeeze page is with Squeeze Theme by Unique Blog Designs. Squeeze Theme is powered by WordPress and will allow you to create custom squeeze pages in minutes. Jonathan and I both use Squeeze Theme to create all our squeeze pages.To use Squeeze Theme, all you need to do is choose the theme you want to run, add the text, photo or video, your Aweber email codes and let Squeeze Theme do the rest. Before Squeeze Theme came along, I had a designer do all my squeeze pages. Now, Squeeze Theme does it for me in just a few minutes.
Big Step 5 – Send Traffic To The Squeeze PageOnce the squeeze page has been created, you need to send traffic to it. The quickest way to do that is to use pay per click or pay per view advertising. However, that’s also the most expensive way. There are tons of lower cost or free methods for traffic generation. A little creatively can go a long way.Try to think outside the box when it comes to traffic building. Look at what Jonathan did for his eBook. Instead of using PPC to send traffic to his squeeze page, he set up a contest to give away three Apple iPads. Two iPads will go to the top two affiliates who send the most referrals. However, the the 3rd iPad will be awarded to a random affiliate on a draw based on one entry per referral. By referring a friend to download Jonathan’s eBook, you earn an entry. Refer two friends and earn two entries and so on.The three iPads will cost Jonathan about $1,800. Not cheap but not out of the budget for someone who want to build a real affiliate marketing business. So far, Jonathan’s promotion has worked extremely well and he should have a list of over 10,000 names before the contest is over. If 100,000 names are worth $1 million a year, 10,000 names would be worth $100,000 a year. That’s not a bad return on $1,800!
Big Step 6 – Capture The Lead$1 Aweber Offer Lead capturing is the most important part of affiliate marketing. Your business is built around your list. Anything you can do to increase its size means more money for you. During the Affiliate Marketing 101 contest, Jonathan offered a 27″ iMac to anyone who can take over my 1st place spot in seven days. Nobody was able to beat me but you can bet a lot of people tried and Jonathan’s list benefited as a result.While a squeeze page maybe the best way to get someone to give you his email address, you still need a system to handle and host the list. My recommended email service is Aweber. I’ve been using them for years and they are by far the best in the business. Aweber works seamlessly with Squeeze Theme and its web interface allows you to access it from any computer, anywhere in the world.Aweber offers a $1 trial account for all new customers. Big Step 7 – Deploy Auto RespondersAuto responders are emails that go out at a set date and interval. When someone subscribe to my blog, they are sent a series of auto responder emails. These emails are design to do three things.Build a relationship with the subscriber; Promote my blog and brand; and Recommend products and services that help solve the reader’s problem; Email auto responderSetting up the auto responder is extremely easy and is no different than sending out a normal email. If you’re using Aweber, all you have to do is click “Follow Up” in the Message tab. This will allow you to create a follow up message to be sent to your new subscriber at a later date. Aweber allows you to set up an unlimited number of auto responders.If you check the screen shot above, you’ll see that my first auto responder email goes out the instant someone signs up to my list. The second follow up email out goes out four days after the first and the rest goes out in one week intervals until there are no more follow ups.This is also known as a sales funnel. The first few emails helps build your relationship with the subscriber. Later emails in the funnel are used to promote the Clickbank products. This setup works far better than any hit and run system. Research has shown that most prospect won’t buy on the first visit or email. They need to be hit over and over again. This is where the auto responder comes in. The sooner you set it up, the faster you’ll be in the money.

Big Step 8 – Watch The Money Rack Up In The Clickbank Accoun7 Day Clickbank Earnings This step is optional but I really enjoy it. 🙂 You now have the formula to a make massive amounts of money with Clickbank (or any other affiliate network). It takes more work than the hit and run model but the payoffs are much higher. I hope you enjoy this post and I hope it opened your eyes to what it really takes to make money with Clickbank. This will only work if you’re selling your own product or a product you have resell rights to. There are several sales and download management software scripts you can install on your website that will automate the whole sales and delivery of your digital products.I like and use the RAP script because it has a ton of features like:* instant payments to affiliates,
* auto-optin of your customer to your autoresponder,
* multi-product management from one domain, etc.RAP isn’t not the cheapest sales/affiliate management script but you only need to buy it once and you can use it over and over on any number of domains. The other advantage of using a self-hosted script is that you have complete control over your website and affiliate program. You also save money because you don’t have to pay fees for listing products ora percentage of every sale. There are a ton of web-based affiliate management services online such as Clickbank, JV zoo, Mooshpay and Paydotcom. The benefit of using these is that you can tap into an already existing JV network. Your product can get spotted and promoted by affiliates who bring you sales.Big Step 10. If you don’t have your own product, yet.

I say ‘yet’, because having your own product should definitely be in your plans. You simply need a product to dominate your niche. If you’re not selling your products from your website and doing the affiliate marketing thing for now, your main job is to get traffic to your affiliate links (merchants order pages). There are several ways to get traffic (as discussed below) but most affiliates go for search engine traffic.Last year, I started a couple of affiliate blogs and SEO optimized them for Google traffic. It’s a fairly complex game but the rewards are great when you’re on page 1: hands-free, non-stop traffic. Not to mention it’s highly targeted. The basics of SEO are simple and easy to understand but usually basic SEO will only get you so far. It’s the little extra secret tactics you apply that get you above your competition. I learned from one of the best affiliate/SEO marketers Andrew Hansen how he makes simple $300/day affiliate sites, so I recommend you check his course out if you want to learn affiliate marketing.Big Step 11. Market your website.

In other words, get traffic to it. This is the fuel which will power your business. These are some ways to drive traffic…

  •  SEO (search engine marketing)
  • Video marketing
  • Social networking (Facebook etc)
  • Article marketing (write and submit to article directories)
  • JV marketing (swapping ad space on your website or in emails etc)
  •  Affiliate recruiting (as we talked about in Step 3.)
  •  Paid ads (PPC, banner ads, ezine solo ads etc)
  •  Forum marketing (place your links in your sig)

There are many more ways than this to market your website but it really comes down to your budget and amount of time you’ve got. For free traffic, I suggest article marketing, SEO, JV and affiliate traffic. If you want to pay for quick targeted traffic, then ezine/email solo ads are the way to go. I don’t have a lot of experience with PPC but it’s something I’m looking into.Extra cool tip: With the traffic you generate, send it to a squeeze page so you can build a list. (works for affiliate marketing too ).The final secret. In the end, the secret to it all is just going out there and doing it. You probably know all the things I already explained above – but they won’t help you if you don’t take action on them! 90% of success is a result of simply taking action! (10% inspiration, 90% perspiration)Work out a plan and then break it down into small jobs. Work and aim to complete those small jobs in a time frame you decide. If you just do one small but significant task a day, you will get a lot accomplished every week. Doing the basics leads to big things.
