BUILD YOUR BLOG WITH A HOOK
by Yaro Starak – The Blog Traffic King
Today’s blog traffic tip is a technique you can apply to your blog, and if implemented well, will achieve the following:
- Make your blog a destination point
- Increase your blog’s “stickiness”
- Bring traffic to your blog regardless of how (in)frequently you update
- Consistently attract incoming links
Best of all, you only need to implement this technique once for it to work well. If you do it twice, or thrice, your blog will be well on it’s way to becoming a superstar in the blogosphere. Sounds like a miracle technique doesn’t it? Well read on to find out what I am talking about…
THE HOOK
If you are at all interested in pop music you will be aware of what is known as the “hook”. The hook is the element of a song that is just so catchy it makes you want to hear the song over and over again. It forces people who otherwise should not be singing to sing along while listening to the track. The hook is dangerously powerful. In terms of blogging the hook has the same characteristics that it has in music. A hook brings readers to your blog over and over again. It’s addictive, fun, or valuable and unique.
HOOK VS PILLAR
So what’s the difference between a “hook” and a “pillar”, the technique I talked about in previous articles? A pillar is generally easier to produce and most successful bloggers will produce multiple pillars each month, some each week or even every day. A hook on the other hand is something so compelling and unique that you are lucky if you pull it off more than once a year.
You could think of a hook as a pillar on steroids. It has all the same characteristics but everything is magnified with a hook. It takes more work to pull off a successful hook, but the rewards are significant when done right.
Still confused? Essentially a hook is something, and it can be a blog article, but often it’s a piece of software or a digital download, that provides tremendous value. The idea is this one resource brings in traffic to your blog because it helps a lot of people. Word of mouth spreads a hook all over the place, with hundreds of bloggers linking to it, and people sending emails to tell their friends about it. A good hook comes up in conversation as the accepted way to get something done – as the best solution to a problem.
HOOK EXAMPLES
The professional blogging site, Performancing.com, released a plug-in for the Firefox Internet browser that allowed bloggers to post articles directly from their browser without logging into their blog software. This one piece of software is unique and very valuable to the whole blogging community and therefore was a hook for the Performancing blog. The team behind Performancing no doubt worked hard to get the software designed right, it would not have been created over night. Their hard work paid off and when their plug-in was released they enjoyed a huge flow of traffic, exposure and incoming links. I still read blogs that mention the performancing plug-in when they first discover it. This demonstrates the long, ongoing traffic creating effect of pulling off a successful hook.
Performancing has gone on to release many more great tools for bloggers, including Performancing Metrics, a statistics tracking service for blogs, the Performancing Exchange, a place where bloggers and blog employers can advertise blogging jobs, and the latest, Performancing Partners, an advertising system designed to help connect blog publishers with advertisers. All these services are hooks – they are not easy to set-up, provide tremendous value, leverage community and make Performancing a destination blog.
COMMUNITY BASED HOOKS
I’ve talked about the importance of building community at your blog in previous newsletters. Another form of a hook is a forum where all the fans of a hobby congregate and talk or trade. If that forum is hosted as part of your blog, then it is a hook, bringing people back to your site every day. A forum or a chat room, a classifieds section, or a bulletin board, are all community services that can make your blog into a destination point and help your traffic grow without you directly creating the content – the community does the work for you. It’s not by any means easy to build a successful forum or community service. It takes a while to gain traction – it’s about as hard as it is to build traffic to a blog, so if you decide to go down the path of building a forum adjacent to your blog as a hook strategy, be prepared for some hard work. Try this article to get you started with your forum building:
How to Build a Popular Forum Community in 5 Steps
DON’T BE DISCOURAGED
Remember a hook is a challenging technique to implement well. Most sites that have good hooks are the result of a team, or special talents. To build software or create a resource that is truly unique takes resources, timing, strategy and a good dosage of luck too. In my career online I have created maybe one or two truly successful hooks. One was a forum (MTGParadise.com) that people started trading cards at so they kept coming back to trade, the other is my blog Entrepreneurs-Journey.com, which has the hook of my entire back catalogue of articles to help people build an Internet business. Both these two hooks took at least a year to build up to the point where I could really call them a hook.
Building a hook takes time. Keep at it for the long haul but make sure you see HOW the hook will work, don’t just assume it will work. You need to see the psychological pull, the addiction or fun or value that your service or content or resource provides. If you don’t have that, it won’t work.
Using Facebook To Promote Your Blog And Your Website
By Alfred Loo
You can make money by using Facebook to promote your blog and your website.
There is truly a place for every internet marketer on the social network. So far, among the most popular of all the social networking sites is Facebook, and this is a great social networking tool because of its sheer size of people who are using it worldwide creating a large community where people socialize in it. It is a great opportune time to capture a much wider and bigger market for your products than ever before. Facebook like other social networking site provide lots of features as well, like on-site advertising mechanism; and for business owner, you can create your “blog-like” brand wall on the business page.
Facebook pages are a great way to promote your blog and website to represent your business or brand. You can provide information, links, videos and articles and posts related to your blog and website and build an entirely different community around your theme or topic of your blog or the theme of your website. You can also promote your business by joining other Facebook pages related to your niche that are created by other people, and then get actively involved by leaving comments and engage in their conversation. Of course you would have left behind your link to your blog and website for people who are interested in you.
Indeed you can leverage on Facebook to promote your blog on your business page by writing status updates, just like you write your blog posts. Here you can posts your articles or promotional information regarding your products and services for your community to see. Why not, likewise, provide your users or fans with your links to your blog posts and website so that they can do business with you as well? Just like in your blog, you will update your wall regularly by uploading your promotional videos, photos, articles and information of your niche business. In addition to your own link you may include your affiliate links if you are promoting for another parties’ products or services.
In your wall, you could provide interactive conversation, thus allowing other users or fans to leave comments on your wall posts; as well as sending your private messages to other users if you find that you can provide further information or solution that you think it will able to solve their problem, and probably you can made a sale there. Facebook made it easier for you to integrate your wall with your blog. To prevent duplicate of work, you can made use of the notes application in Facebook, and automatically publishes it on your Facebook’s wall together with a link for all your fans and users to see and follow whenever you publish a new blog post.
By posting your status updates regularly to your wall you will able to broadcast your announcement of the latest status of your product and services and any new products that you are offering. Target only those in your niche market using Facebook to promote your blog and website, if not you will be only wasting your time trying to woo people who are not really interesting in your products but who are just a casual visitor looking for friends.

Promote Your Blog
When you decided to have a blog and or you already started one, the time is now to promote it. Though I am very new to blogging, yet I got some handful of information to share with you and trying for myself.
First of all, what you need to decide if you are at all interested in promoting it. If your blog only caters to a certain number or type of people then you shall not devour effort to promote it. Promoting not always means spreading your blog name and content wide across so that it reaches every nook and corner. Promoting can be specific target oriented or general. If your target audience is a group of people like if you have a blog on news for your local area, the way you will promote it should be altogether different.
A few ways to promote your blog.
- If your blog is audience oriented or meant for local news, events etc you can try these methods. I am not sure how effective these are but definitely the ideas are unique and make sense.
- Aaron Brazell in one of his posts stated how effective is his Guerrilla Marketing Techniques. Guerrilla Marketing is promoting your blog in some unique, powerful and aggressive way. Like Darren Rowse in one of his articles gave an example of such marketing.
- I met a blogger recently who had a blog with a very local focus. His Guerrilla Marketing Tactic was to do a deal with three internet cafes in his area to make his the home page on all of the computers. In return for this he gave them some free advertising on his blog. The same blogger made a similar deal with the local library who also made his the home page of their public internet computers. This worked particularly well for him as his was on his local area.
- You can use local newspaper to promote your blog. I am doubtful if it will succeed, but there’s noting to lose in trying.
- Distributing leaflet, wallpapers or encouraging local shop owners to display your blog poster can add traffic to your blog. Because some people just out of curiosity will definitely check your blog at least for once. And if they like it, they will be committed readers.
If your audience is global or general then your promotion should be online and offline promotion will not be a big success. Here are some golden rules.
- Content is king. So you must first concentrate on your content. If content is not good then you can draw visitors to your blog but cannot retain it. They will come and will leave and will think twice before re-visiting.
- Use a good blog software. There are certain features which a blog must have. Auto pinging, trackback URL, good WYSIWYG editor, should include in the blog features list. In my opinion wordpress, typepad are very good softwares which you can use.
- Search engine friendly url: Your URL at any point of time shall not look like domainname.com?blogtitle=xxxx, instead it should be like domainname.com/xxxx.html or domainname.com/year/month/date/xxxx.
- Submitting your website to various search engines will be your next step to index it properly. There are free tools in the market which you can use.
- Pinging various blog. If you are using any popular software, then these software automatically pings your RSS/Atom to various blog listing websites. If not then you can try Ping-o-Matic.
- Joining any blog community or creating one is very useful. Because in this community you will get readers who are really interested in reading blogs and all of them are regular bloggers. You can read this article for further insight.
- Promoting in myspace, xanga, orkut can add some traffic to your website but it cannot be very high, I bet.
- Putting your website address in your email signature is a good idea as this will keep promoting your website to the section of people with whom you communicate on regular basis.
- Once you have completed promoting, the next thing you should think upon is how you should earn money(obviously if you are a professional blogger or looking forward to a blogging career). I will come up with another article on this topic.

What Is Your Most Wanted Response? If You Blog for Money, You Better Have One
By Brankica U.
Are you trying to make money online? If you are, you better have your most wanted response ready then. Did I just see a question mark above your head? You have no idea what that is? Then this is the postfor you!
What is a most wanted response?
In plain words it is “what you want people to do on your blog”. Your most wanted response can be people clicking on your affiliate links and buying products, leaving their e-mails when they subscribe to your newsletter or hire you for a service you are offering. Every post you write should have a most wanted response. If you don’t have one, your visitors will just leave the blog after reading the post. Or best case scenario, they will wonder around. But without MWR on any of your pages, they will eventually just leave.
Why should you have a most wanted response on your blog? If you are blogging for money (or hoping you will do it one day), most wanted response is what helps bring the money.
With a MWR “assigned” to everything you do, you will get to the money part faster.
Let me digress a bit here. I’ve read a lot of posts on how to get more comments. Don’t get me wrong, I love them and use those tips a lot. I love getting a lot of comments. But if you are building your blog to make money, comments alone won’t do that for you. So, instead of making your most wanted response “getting more comments” you should have in mind another MWR – “make money”. Now, although your main MWR for a blog should be “make money” you should have a more specific MWR for every post you write.
Also, this works the other way around too. If you have a MWR in plan, there is a certain kind of post you should write to get it. How to know what is your most wanted response for different pages? Different types of blogs offer different types of services so they need to adjust their posts accordingly. It will depend on how you monetize your blog as a whole or how you monetize specific parts of it.
- Why do you write a sales page? To sell. So what is your MWR there? You want people to click on “add to cart” button and buy your product.
- Why do you write a review page? You want to show people why they should spend money on the product/service you are reviewing. So your MWR will probably be for them to click your affiliate link and buy.
- You want more subscribers? You will create a sign-up page and tell people why should they give you their e-mails.
Is there a MWR for your front/home page? YES! You want people to dig deeper into your blog. MWR doesn’t always have to be to make more money. You can even have a MWR where you will want visitors to go and see another blogger’s blog.
Always have in mind that everything you do, can and should have a most wanted response attached to it. What not to do? What would be a completely wrong thing to do when it comes to a most wanted response. Distraction!
If you have a sales page where MWR is (of course) for your visitors to buy, you will never add a “Visit our Facebook fan page” to the top of your post. Why? Because it will take your visitors away from the page and away from the sale.
Call to action All this is basically explaining that you need a call to action on your blog. That call will get your most wanted response. You need to be clear about what you want people to do. If you are selling a product your call for action will be “add to cart” button. Add more than one of those. Give people the chance to do what you want them to do.
How will you know if you are doing it right? You need to track your results and then analyze them. If you are not selling anything, your sales page is not working. Change it! If you are getting some sales but think you can do better, do a test. Change the page and see if you get more sales. Tracking two or more different pages should give you enough data to analyze it and decide what works the best.
In case something is not really working there is only one thing to do – flush it down the toilet. Start over. And just one note for the end – even if it is working good, try to improve it, because you can always do better!

Creating a Successful Blog – The 3 Tips That Can Jump Start Your Success!
By Fred Meek
There has been quite a bit of talk about blogging and you need to know that creating a successful blog is not all that difficult, if you know the steps to follow. Many have gone before you and put up blogs that were highly successful, and they were able to find a way to monetize their blogs for maximum profits. Here are the three tips you need to make sure your blog is very successful.
- The actual layout and theme
Some of the most successful blogs on the internet do not have flash banners or bright colors. After all, those searching the internet are mainly after information and content. The best blogs are those that are easy to read with soft colors. This makes a visitor want to read the blog instead of feeling like advertisement is being shoved in their face.
- The commitment to content
After you have a theme and layout picked out for your blog, then you are ready to move on to the next step in creating a successful blog. This would be adding content to your blog and this must be consistent. You will not be successful if you just throw up a few posts and leave it alone. Instead you have to add content every day for a while or at least on a consistent basis.
Most blogging platforms have a scheduling feature that will allow you to schedule a post for the future. This means you could write 5 posts today and schedule each one to be posted to your blog automatically for the next 5 days. This makes it much easier to provide consistent posts without having to write each and every day.
- Promote your content
The last thing you have to do in order to create a successful blog, is promote the content you put up. There are many ways to go about this and you should explore different options. You could become active in a couple of forums that have to do with the subject of your blog. Most forums allow you a signature link and this should be a link back to your blog.
Another option is to use article marketing to promote your blog. Write a couple articles for each of the blog posts you create. Then, submit these articles to a few article directories with links back to the main page of your blog and to the page of the actual post. This will help to build traffic and backlinks for your blog.
Creating a successful blog is not all that difficult if you are willing to put in a little time and effort. Just do not over complicate it and make sure you promote your blog.

How To Write The Best Articles For Your Blog
Article is the best way to market any product, business and services which is the reason why you will find various advertising articles in newspapers and magazines. The same thing goes when it comes to Internet businesses, you write articles for your business websites or blogs then you submit to various article submission sites to gain more traffic and exposure and hopefully earn profit from the process. Sounds so easy to say, but it is hard to do especially if you are not really into article writing.
If you want to succeed in this business, you have to write articles whether you like it or not. If you happen to have a blog, this could not be a big problem for you because you are already writing posts after posts. But the question is, are they beneficial enough to get your readers attention? Are they unique and original content? These questions should be applied constantly if you are into blogging because not all your readers are interested on what you do about your life, but it’s about what you can share with them.
To be an efficient and productive blogger, you have to learn how to compose the best articles for your blog in a daily basis. Learn how to turn your posts into a magnet, where people just wanted to read your posts over and over again, eagerly waiting for your every next article. How to write articles effectively? Read my guidelines below.
- First thing you should do is to research for facts. Information on your every posts must be based on true facts such as historical events, scientific explanation and hard evidence because articles are designed to share informative and useful ideas. Where to find useful information? Every niche has various and different resources that are readily available to you, all you have to do is to research for it. Books, encyclopedias, magazines, newspapers and of course the Internet, all has the capability to give you unique and factual information for your everyday subject.
- Second guideline is to know your niche and market. Writing articles are different from any other tasks. To be able to write precisely, you need to understand your niche and your intended market. Why? Because your niche is your supposed expertise and your market is your actual visitors. For example your niche is all about weight loss. You must understand that to be able to catch your visitors attention, you must be able to compose various relative topics or subjects related to weight loss. Use my first guidelines on where to get the necessary resources about weight loss then compose your own original articles.
Now your articles should be designed to attract people who has interests with weight loss. Your market audience must always be considered because that is the most important thing, you must always satisfies of what your readers are looking for. In weight loss, direct your attention to people who has the same interest for weight loss information and products. These people of course are those individuals who are eager to lose weight and are looking for ways on the Internet. Direct your articles to your niche and market then your success will absolutely follow.
- Third most important thing is be patience. Patience is a very important part of article writing. In fact it is required not only for online marketing but also for traditional writing as well. In blog posts, always remember that content is not always king if your contents are not useful enough for your readers. To be able to make most out of your time preparing the best articles you can write, you must be able to compose and think patiently to come up with best results.
This is the reason why I always recommend to all of you that one post per day is enough to satisfy your readers. Why? Because multiple blog posts will just mean nothing if you offer the same thing over and over again. You must offer your readers new topics and unique information, and you cannot provide this kind of articles if you are writing multiple posts everyday. A precised and well prepared article a day is much better than multiple crammed posts in the long run.
- The last guideline I will give you is the most important one – write with your heart. Writers are said to be mild at heart, it must be true because writers uses their mind and soul when writing. Emotions, physical experiences and mental capacities are working together to construct the best article a writer can do. What your heart says is probably what you are going to write and that is quite an important tool to achieve success. Why? because you feel it is the right thing to say, you feel that you are telling the truth and only the best information your knowledge can offer.
If you write with your heart, happiness and satisfaction comes into play. You become satisfied of your every work and you definitely feel delighted when someone greatly enjoys your articles. There is no better things in life than sharing thing to others and articles are one of the best tools to achieve this goal.
These are my personal guidelines on how to write the best articles for your blog and for your over all online business marketing. Always right the best articles you can and soon success will follow. Intend not only to make profit when it comes to article marketing, but to contribute knowledge throughout the Internet.
